For questions about techniques to directly or indirectly image the structure, function/pharmacology of the brain.

Examples of techniques:

  • functional MRI (1) (2) - detects blood oxygenation levels
  • optical imaging, NIRS - based on wavelengths of light that are reflected
  • structural MRI - uses the different rates of precession of atomic nuclei (which can vary based on the amount of water the tissue contains, in certain paradigms of MRI imaging)
  • PET - detects gamma emitting tracers injected into the body
  • CT scanning - can be used with contrast agents for brain imaging

Neuroimage is one of the more popular peer-reviewed journals in this area.
