Dec 6, 2015 at 4:47 comment added Arnon Weinberg As mentioned, dreaming is no longer associated with REM sleep. Evidence suggests that it happens throughout sleep, and the "REM = dreaming" hypothesis has long been abandoned. That said, we don't know if what is observed in rats translates to human dream recall, but the point is that there is a difference between being aware of the actual passage of time, and the length of events represented during that time.

Dec 6, 2015 at 1:59 comment added honi its important to note that hippocampal replay occurs in slow-wave sleep not REM sleep, so is probably unrelated to dreams.
