Evidence suggests that it happens throughout sleep, and the "REM = dreaming" hypothesis has long been abandoned. That said, we don't know if what is observed in rats translates to human dream recall, but the point is that there is a difference between being aware of the actual passage of time, and the length of events represented during that time. | |
